This paper has the main objective to clarify the riverbank condition and factors affecting to the riverbank stability in the Red riverbank, from Km 20 to Km 27, Hanoi area. The method includes field investigation, soil laboratory and Geo-Slope analysis. Based on the terrain data of the cross-section, there are two types of riverbank geometry configuration. The first configuration presents the riverbank area from Km 20 to Km 24�+�800, where has the narrow alluvial area. The tension crack and soil erosion are factors causing riverbank failure. The second configuration presents for riverbank from Km 25�+�200 to Km 27, where the rainfall intensity and drainage condition are factors affecting to riverbank stability. The riverbank failure quickly happens with the high rainfall intensity and poor drainage condition. � Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.
